Ingredients

  • 1 cup yellow moong dal (washed)

  • 1 tbsp Shreyasam Moringa Powder

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped

  • 1 medium tomato, chopped

  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 tsp grated ginger

  • 1 green chilli (optional)

  • ½ tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds

  • 1 tbsp ghee or cold-pressed oil

  • Salt to taste

  • 3 cups water

  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

  • Juice of ½ lemon (optional)


Tempering (Tadka)

  • 1 tsp ghee

  • ½ tsp cumin seeds

  • A pinch of asafoetida (hing)

  • 4–5 curry leaves

  • ½ tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder


How to Make

  1. Pressure cook the washed moong dal with turmeric and water until soft.

  2. Heat oil or ghee in a pan.

  3. Add cumin seeds and allow them to crackle.

  4. Add onion, garlic, ginger and green chilli. Sauté until lightly golden.

  5. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until soft.

  6. Stir the cooked dal into the pan.

  7. Simmer for 5 minutes.

  8. Switch off the heat and stir in Shreyasam Moringa Powder. (Adding moringa after cooking helps preserve its natural flavour and colour.)

  9. Prepare the tempering separately and pour it over the dal.

  10. Garnish with fresh coriander and a squeeze of lemon if desired.

  11. Serve hot.
